The 2025 DC Jazz Festival (Aug. 27–31) is expanding into new neighborhoods while maintaining its citywide spirit. This year, programming reaches far-flung areas like the Palisades (hosting avant-garde Trio Exaltation), American University Park (with “Jazz in the Park” led by guitarist Joshua Bayer), and Navy Yard (Justin Mendez at Canal Park).
Other highlights include:
- Anacostia: Tribute to poet Thomas Sayers Ellis.
- Kreeger Museum: Imani-Grace Cooper.
- Southwest Waterfront/Wharf: The festival hub, featuring major acts like Lalah Hathaway and Matthew Whitaker at The Anthem, Cécile McLorin Salvant at Arena Stage, and Akua Allrich, Corcoran Holt, and the DCJazzPrix finals at Union Stage.
- Foggy Bottom (Kennedy Center): Three Millennium Stage performances (Joshua Bayer, Leigh Pilzer, Herb Scott), notable since jazz programming there has diminished.
- Downtown: Eaton Hotel, Anthem Row, and the Opening Night Gala at the Hamilton with the JazzDC All-Star Orchestra.
The festival continues to broaden its footprint post-pandemic, mixing new venues with traditional ones while showcasing both local talent and national stars.
