MOORE Contemporary Theatrics

Founded in May 2025 by Artistic Director and Founder Daniel L. Moore, MOORE Contemporary Theatrics (MCT) is a newly established pick-up dance company based in Washington, DC, committed to shaping bold, cinematic, and theatrical narratives through contemporary dance. Mission: MCT exists to reimagine storytelling for the stage, blending contemporary ballet, modern dance, and theatrical fusion to give movement to stories that are often silenced. The company is dedicated to exploring works inspired by Black playwrights, voices, and legacies, transforming written word into embodied performance. Our goal is to create productions that challenge audiences to feel, question, and connect — making dance a vessel for cultural dialogue and reflection. Community Outreach: At its core, MCT believes in the power of dance to build community. Rooted in Washington, DC, the company is developing partnerships with schools, arts organizations, and cultural centers to oKer educational workshops, residencies, and observation opportunities for youth. By bridging the gap between professional dancers and the next generation, MCT seeks to create pathways of mentorship, inspiration, and accessibility in the performing arts. Performance & Legacy: MCT’s inaugural work, Beneath The Sun, is a contemporary ballet and modern fusion piece inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s seminal play A Raisin in the Sun. Through voiceless repertoire and physical storytelling, the company explores the themes of family, women, community, and human connection — honoring Hansberry’s legacy while expanding it for a new generation of audiences. As MCT continues to grow, its repertoire will focus on the re-imagination of Black playwrights’ works, developing original productions that highlight stories of resilience, struggle, and triumph. Each performance is designed to resonate beyond the stage, contributing to the cultural life of the District while fostering a deeper appreciation for the intersections of dance, theater, and history.
