The Anacostia Business Improvement District (Anacostia BID), which powers the Anacostia Arts & Culture District—Art to Go-Go DC’s Official Arts & Culture District, proclaimed by Mayor Muriel Bowser in 2022—is proud to announce the launch of its bold new marketing campaign: “Experience Anacostia.”

The campaign is designed to engage  DC residents, the broader DMV region, and national and international visitors to the nation’s capital. Whether it’s enjoying a live go-go performance, exploring a diverse array of local art, or soaking in the neighborhood’s welcoming atmosphere, Anacostia has something for everyone. This historic neighborhood, often overlooked, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

“Mayor Bowser has invested heavily in historic Anacostia, especially its gateway at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Marion Barry Avenues, SE,” said Deputy Mayor Nina Albert. “Anacostia is a community of entrepreneurs and creatives who are offering culture, food, fashion and fun for the whole city to explore and enjoy.”

The “Experience Anacostia” kicks off this week with vibrant billboards and bus shelter advertisements appearing throughout Washington, DC and the surrounding region. Bursting with color, creativity, and the authentic spirit of the community, the imagery showcases the people and places that define Historic Anacostia. These compelling visuals invite residents and visitors alike to explore one of DC’s most dynamic and culturally rich neighborhoods.

Located east of the Anacostia River, the district offers a powerful blend of arts, heritage, and hospitality. Visitors will find an exciting mix of locally owned restaurants, unique retailers, acclaimed arts and cultural venues, and the stunning Anacostia Park, a national treasure along the riverfront.

Anacostia also offers year-round free family programming and is home to over 40 public works of art. Additionally, it features convenient shuttles running twice daily between historic Anacostia, Skyland, and Congress Heights, enhancing community connectivity and accessibility.
